Where does power come from?

Sorry about the delay from writing my last blog. Life has been happening full steam ahead! So let’s see, where was I? Oh yes, I left off with Common Core now it’s onto glass jars (I wish I could see your expression!)

Six pint sized glass jars where standing in a row. As I lifted the pitcher to fill them with water some of the children were excited knowing what was going to happen while the others looked on in wonderment. Each jar was filled at a different level starting with the fullest jar to the left and the least all the way to the right.

Taking the metal tablespoon we tapped each jar to discover how vibration, frequency, and pitch all played a role in what we heard; a musical scale. Each child was excited with our experiment and joyfully took turns tapping the jars and listening to the music that they produced.

As they settled down back into their chairs, I shared with them 2 Corinthians 4:7. It reads, “But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that it may be made clear that this extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us.”  In comparison if these jars represented us (being we are all made in God’s image and likeness, Genesis 1:26-27) would we all want to be the same? Or shall I say given the same “level” of water?

We just heard the difference in each jar and how together they make a beautiful scale, each playing their own part, their own note. What would it sound like if all the jars were given the same amount of water? I asked the children, would you all want to be the same? I received a resounding NO!

NO is right! I treasure their uniqueness their differences and encouraged them not to try and “be like” everyone else, they each have their own special part to play.

So why are we, the adults, trying to make them the same? So Common?

Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of services, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is  the same God who activates all of them in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good…(read it all in 1 Corinthians 12 beginning in verse 4 if you so choose.)

I would have to agree that this power does not come from us. It comes from God! Celebrate your uniqueness and give God thanks for we too each play a part, different and unique, in this place and time that will soon be history.

For those who have accepted the free gift of salvation you play a part as well in the Body and Bride of Christ! Will we all look and sound the same? No, but we are unified in our faith, hope, and love of Jesus Christ. Thank Him, all ye little children, God is love.
