Do you ever have so many things on your mind that you don’t even know where to start? You’re stumped so to speak. After taking some time away from my writing that’s where I’m at.
I remember Kathi Appelt speaking on this very thing and encouraging the aspiring authors in the room to write like their fingers were on fire! Whether it made sense or not…write! So here I go…
Perusing through books and glancing at their covers, I’ve often dream of my name printed on a books spine. Just imagining children and adults holding/reading the book that was formed from the well of my heart, into their hands, engaging their imagination and teaching them a song or two, is humbling to me.
One of the greatest books that impacts and inspires me is God’s Word, the Bible. Filled with adventure, drama, wars, murder, history, Jesus – all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness. The Bible is the greatest book ever written. It’s more than just words on a page. It’s heart changing.
It’s no wonder we are told to tell our children… “You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.…” Deuteronomy 6:5-7
What are you and your children talking about and reading these days?
May you grow in knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. Daniel 1:17
In an effort not to ramble on, I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’ve always enjoyed writing and have been working on a picture book for three years now. It includes a song, which is where most of the time has gone. But I’m so excited about it. My current dilemma is having the song edited and needing a children’s choir to perform it for recording. Then off to the publisher! (Have any pointers for me, I’d love to read them!)
