Heads or Tails?

Have you ever flipped a coin in the air, asking heads or tails, to see who would win?  What would happen if the coin was only one sided?  Do you not need both sides for the coin to be valuable, or to determine the winner? <

This reminds me of the saying, “There are two sides to every story.”  How often do we find ourselves caught up in the moment, only having listened to one side of the story and basing our decision on that one side?  Do we seek the truth or listen to what others say?  Do we find out for ourselves?  Without knowing both sides, has the story been told, can anyone win?

I have caught myself several times, with my own children, tending to just listen to the one who is crying or hurt. And not wanting to hear what the other has to say or even giving them a chance. It is hard but, I have been working on listening to both sides of the story. Listening to each child, how they feel, what could have been done differently to avoid the conflict, and helping them work it out. It has been a good reminder to me to be “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry.” That way the truth can be set free and understanding can be given. And also practicing and applying this principle to my life outside my home with strangers and friends.

Can you imagine if all we were ever told was that Jesus died on the cross for our sins and nothing else?  To never hear of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, or the Counselor that was sent to help us? There are innumerable truths tucked within the pages of God’s Word, that are just waiting for you to see, know, and understand.

I encourage you to find out the truth for yourself.  If you are involved in a situation that will change your life, listen to both sides of the story.  Seek the truth.  “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
