A Father’s Gift
Last weekend as I went shopping with my Aunt Linda, she ran into an acquaintance of hers. He was trying on sunglasses. Removing them he said, “You all shopping for Father’s Day gifts?” I thought to myself no, but I probably should be. Then I wondered. What kind of gift can you give to a father who has raised me, supported me, loved me, prayed for me, and encouraged me. Who comforted me when I was weak…
All the things he taught me can’t be bought. They can’t be replaced. They could only have been given to me, by him, because I am his child. His daughter. And even though I come from a large family, my relationship with my father can’t be like my sister’s or my brothers relationship with him because we aren’t the same people.
My dad, he is so special to me. He’s not ever afraid to try new things. He is the inspiration of adventure. He is always there when I need him, even when we are far apart. I am so thankful for my father, my dad. For being a part of his life and him being a part of mine.
These things to me are a glimmer of our heavenly Father. Whether you have a dad on this earth who is a part of your life or not, there is One that is. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be his name. There is no other like him. His love is wider, deeper than the ocean. And the things that he teaches us are innumerable. How do we thank him? How do you thank him? I will begin with those two little words. Thank you and then, I love you Dad.
As you go about your weekend, make memories, love others, and celebrate dads. Let them know they are loved and appreciated. Even if they don’t have children, I guarantee you they have touched the heart of a child in some way. From a kind word to a smile. Dads you make a difference.
What are some of your favorite memories with your dad? I would love to hear!
Happy Father’s Day weekend!
