The veins of the tree…

The tree had begun showing signs of decay.  To prevent anyone from getting hurt, the tree was cut down. This is how I saw it.

I haven’t ever seen the inside of a tree like that before.  Just look at it. Have you?

I understand they aren’t called veins when it comes to a tree, but seeing them exposed in that manner reminded me of veins.  You know how important veins are to us, the pith is that important to the tree. The trees pith (very center) functions in much the same way and is surrounded (protected) by the heartwood. How amazing it is to me that the heartwood protects the life line of the tree.  And how important our heart is…

Not only is it important to be in good physical health, but also to have a spiritually healthy heart. Like this tree displayed signs of decay, we show signs when we aren’t feeling well, and we go to the doctor.  But what if the decay is deep like it was in this tree and visiting a doctor can’t help you?  How do you get a spiritual heart check up?

Here are a few questions for a self heart examination:

1. What words are coming out of my mouth?  “…Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45)

2. How do I smell? “The righteous hate what is false, but the wicked make themselves a stench and bring shame on themselves.” Proverbs 13:5

3. Am I content? “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth not rust destroys, and where thieves do not break in or steal; for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Matthew 6:20-21

The decay in this trees pith led to it’s being cut down.  If you find yourself spiritually sick, have hope, God is the ultimate healer. Just give him a call. Do you need the number?  It’s Jeremiah 33:3

What are some questions you ask when taking a “heart” check?  How has the Lord healed you?
