Tugging on my heart strings…

It’s too early for this.  I’m preparing for the morning and urging the kids to get ready for school. Klove is on and they are interviewing Christian singer/songwriter Brandon Heath. Brandon starts sharing about his new song,Just A Girl,” and the story line behind it.  (I encourage you to listen to it by clicking on “interviewing” above.)

I had heard the song before, but as they played it this morning, I stopped dead in my tracks.  And then I felt it, that tug on my heart.  Voices of my past…Just a girl, some teenage girl that’s pregnant. Did I have more in common with Mary than I realized?

The innkeeper’s attitude was all too familiar to me.  In the moments that passed I pondered this anew, the looks I received, the comments made when I carried my first child. Did they whisper when she walked past? You see I too was a teenager, just a girl, misunderstood, and looked down on by a world who didn’t have time for me… But Jesus did and he changed my world forever.

The children that I’ve carried and am raising and the husband that stands by my side aren’t coincidence. They are a part of God’s story for me and I for them. I was more than just a girl and he proves it everyday because he loves me.

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

Mary was more than just a girl.  She was chosen. Chosen by God to give birth to the Savior. Her life would be forever changed and so would the whole world. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” And so he came on that star lit night…and He will come again.

As the Lord called Mary, he so calls you. Can you hear Him?  You don’t want to miss it…may it be unto you as the Word says – You are his beloved.

Have a Mary Christmas!
